Having pioneered the deployment of nodal recording technology within Nigeria, UG(N)L combined the latest generation nodal technology with the deployment of Univibe vibrators in Port Harcourt City to acquire the most complex high resolution 3D seismic survey in Nigeria’s long exploration history.
The survey area covered the entire width of Port Harcourt City characterized by dense urban environments and infrastructure (residential, commercial, and large/small scale industrial), combined with traditional land environments with thick swamp and riverine areas in the south.
The survey combined two different receiver types (GTI nodes on land/swamp and Sercel ULS with hydrophones in the Rivers). In addition, three different source types were deployed across the varying terrain. These included; Dynamite:- 2Kg (35m SDH), Univibes:- 28,000lb (4-inline), Airgun:- 640Cu In
In order to reduce extraneous noise and increase S/N ratio, vibrators worked at night within the city. Drive levels (30-70%) were tailors to each VP environment.
The survey was a huge success and represented a step change in the deployment of new technology within Nigeria.
